備考/ NotesNotes |
This course aims to provide an understanding of the economic and business environments of Asian countries. Students will develop an understanding of the economic and business environments in Japan and East Asia, with a focus on key industries, trade patterns, and the role of government policy. In addition, students will gain the ability to analyze the export structures of East Asian countries, identifying the composition of exports and their impact on regional economic growth.
This course uses export dataset, and students will assess how East Asian countries leverage their comparative advantages and how these influence their positions in the global market. Specifically, this course teaches how to calculate and interpret Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) as a tool for evaluating the competitive advantage of countries in different industries. Concepts of path-dependent diversification and industrial development will be covered, and related literatures will be reviewed. Lastly, students will critically evaluate how international competitiveness of East Asian economies has changed over time with government policies.
This course will include frequent class discussions, and students are strongly encouraged to participate in the discussions.
