【Course Objectives】

This class provides students with an opportunity to improve their English skills and leadership ability in a cross-cultural environment. It focuses on developing personal intercultural knowledge, public speaking capability, and academic writing skills.

【Course Contents】

OEAP introduces key academic activities that are covered in more depth in other BBL classes. During your OEAP three-week program, you will build upon leadership skills introduced to you in the Introduction to Leadership course (BL0) by extending your ability to use shared leadership to function effectively in non-Japanese contexts.

【授業計画 / Course Schedule】

1 Welcome to OEAP
SAs and instructors will introduce the course with information about what you will be doing and how this course will help you prepare to study abroad.
2 Orientation
You will participate in ice breakers, take photos, complete course forms for partner universities, and get an overview of travel procedures for each destination.
3 Body/Voice Control
Students will learn about body control in presentations. You will see strong examples of appropriate stance, gestures, and interactivity, before practicing.

Slide Design
You will learn about the 3Cs of slides design and how to apply these skills in Presentation 1: Scavenger Hunt presentation.
4 SA Session
SAs will give presentations on their experiences studying overseas and lead other activities to help prepare you to study abroad.
5 Research a Small to Medium Enterprise Project
You will be the course project of researching a small to medium Japanese company. You will give a presentation in Week 10 on the company with a group of your peers.
6 Citations and the BBL Guidelines
You will complete exercises about citing sources. You will learn about paraphrasing and quoting, and practice source introduction and in-text citation.
7 References and the BBL Guidelines
You will learn how to write a reference list for different types of sources.
8 Slide Design Competition
You will review slide design with a focus on designing credible slides. You will compete against other students to improve a slide for extra credit.
9 Project Planning Session
You will be given time to work on your Presentation 2 with your group.
10 Presentation: SMEs in Japan
You will give your presentation with your group, and ask questions to other.
11 Travel Procedures
You will learn about travel safety, insurance procedures, and other topics that will enable you to travel safely overseas.
12 Email Session
You will learn how to professionally compose and email. You will then send an email to your professor and to your host family.
13 Case Studies
You will learn about past issues that students have faced overseas and discuss with peers how to overcome them.
14 Wrap-up and final review
You will complete any final paperwork, make sure you know how to get to your university, and group leaders will be assigned for each team.

Students will need to submit various documents and forms for their study abroad program and are expected to meet all assigned deadlines.
本学では 1 単位あたりの学修時間を 45 時間としている(授業時間を含む)。この点を踏まえた上で、履修者は事前学修・事後学修を行うこと。
