This course aims to develop a fundamental perspective for resolving contemporary conflicts by reading English-language texts on geopolitics and resources.
This course aims to examine contemporary social issues from multiple perspectives, including economics, politics, and political thought. Over the course of the academic year—from the spring semester through the fall semester—we will read and discuss The New Map by Daniel Yergin. The book provides a detailed analysis of how competition over resource acquisition in regions such as the United States, Russia, China, and the Middle East has developed in complex interaction with political interests, alongside technological developments related to shale gas, electric vehicles, and renewable energy. Through close reading of this work, students will cultivate a multidimensional perspective for analyzing the rapidly changing landscape of contemporary international politics.

This course aims to develop a fundamental perspective for resolving contemporary conflicts by reading English-language texts on geopolitics and resources.
この授業では経済や政治、思想といった様々な角度から現代社会の諸問題を考察することを目指します。春学期から秋学期までの1年間を通じて、Daniel Yergin著 THE NEW MAP を講読します。同書はアメリカ、ロシア、中国、中東といった諸地域における資源獲得競争や、シェールガスや電動自動車や再生可能エネルギーに関連した技術が政治的利害と複雑に交錯しながら発展した様相を詳細に論じています。同書の講読を通じて履修者は、激しく変動する現代の国際政治を分析するための多角的な視野を養うことができるでしょう。
