【Course Objectives】

Learn the basics of econometrics and acquire the knowledge necessary for conducting empirical analysis. In Econometrics 2, students learn the fundamentals of statistical causal inference used in microeconometrics.

【Course Contents】

Students learn the basic theory of statistical causal inference and policy evaluation analysis used in microeconometrics. In econometrics, especially modern microeconometrics, results using regression analysis are not automatically interpreted as "causal effects," and the standard is to consider in detail "in which cases can the analytical results of regression analysis and other statistical analysis be interpreted as causal effects?"
Therefore, in this lecture, students learn analytical techniques and analysis design based on the concepts of this type of "statistical causal inference" based on the econometric basics studied in Econometrics 1. In addition, specific analytical concepts and analysis procedures will be studied while examples of analysis used in actual scholarly papers are introduced.
The mathematics level required to understand the course is the mathematics level of "First Steps in Econometrics: An Encouragement of Empirical Analysis," by Ryuichi Tanaka (2015), which is the textbook, and additional explanation will be given as necessary.
