In this lecture, students will study the framework of economic and social statistics that support economic analysis, and understand how global policy needs and Japan-specific issues have changed and how Japanese government and the Bank of Japan have focused on developing these statistics. Additionally, students will learn to understand the contents of databases of international organizations such as the OECD and IMF, as well as the government and the Bank of Japan, and be able to create their own charts and tables.
In the lecture, Japanese statistics will be explained from both cross-sectional and longitudinal perspectives. From the cross-sectional perspective, the current state of statistical production in major Western countries, as well as international discussions and guidelines, will be broadly introduced, and the characteristics of Japanese statistics will be clarified in comparison with these. From the longitudinal perspective, based on the Japanese statistical production system, discussions will cover the systematization of statistical surveys and the effective use of administrative records. Students will access databases from international organizations, etc., and create charts and tables. Feedback will be provided during class or via email.

本講義では、経済分析を支える経済社会統計について、その枠組みを学ぶとともに、世界的な政策ニーズの変遷と日本固有の問題がどう変遷し、我が国の政府や日銀がどのような統計整備に注力してきたのかをを理解する。また、OECDやIMFといった国際機関や政府・日銀のデータベースの内容を理解し、自ら図表を作成できるようになる。
In this lecture, students will study the framework of economic and social statistics that support economic analysis, and understand how global policy needs and Japan-specific issues have changed and how Japanese government and the Bank of Japan have focused on developing these statistics. 講義では、日本の統計について、横断的・縦断的に説明する。横断面では、欧米主要国での統計作成の現状や国際的な議論・ガイドラインを幅広く紹介し、それらとの対比で日本の統計の特徴を明らかにする。縦断面では、日本の統計作成体制を踏まえ、統計調査の体系化や行政記録の有効活用について議論する。受講生は、国際機関等のデータベースにアクセスし図表を作成する。フィードバックは、授業中ないしメールにて行う。
In the lecture, Japanese statistics will be explained from both cross-sectional and longitudinal perspectives. From the cross-sectional perspective, the current state of statistical production in major Western countries, as well as international discussions and guidelines, will be broadly introduced, and the characteristics of Japanese statistics will be clarified in comparison with these.
