The purpose of this course is to acquire basic knowledge of Japan's medical and long-term care systems as well as health economics, and to develop the ability to understand and analyze the challenges currently facing medical and long-term care.
In Japan, public health insurance and long-term care insurance are well established as part of the social security system. While these systems help keep residents' health expenses low, they also incur significant costs. Furthermore, the healthcare delivery systems face many challenges.
Using fundamental concepts of health economics, this course examines Japan's medical and long-term care systems in terms of cost burden (social security and out-of-pocket expenses) and service delivery. To understand the characteristics and challenges of Japan's systems, emphasis is placed on international comparisons.

日本の医療・介護制度および医療経済学の基礎知識を習得し、医療・介護制度が現在直面している課題を理解・考察する能力を身につける。
The purpose of this course is to acquire basic knowledge of Japan's medical and long-term care systems as well as health economics, and to develop the ability to understand and analyze the challenges currently facing medical and long-term care.
日本では、社会保障制度の一環として、公的な医療保険・介護保険が普及している。これらの制度のおかげで住民の医療・介護の費用負担が低く抑えられる一方、制度の運営には多額の費用がかかっている。また、医療・介護の提供体制には様々な課題がある。
この授業では、医療経済学の基礎概念を用いながら、日本の医療・介護制度を費用負担（社会保障と自己負担）とサービス提供体制の両面から検討する。日本の制度の特徴や課題に関する理解を深めるために、随時諸外国との比較を行う。
