The design and development of accounting information systems proceeds on the premise of a fixed database management system (DBMS) and what is key at this time is the accounting data model. This lecture gives an overview of the development of accounting data model theory as represented by the REA accounting model with the objective of having students understand the fundamentals of accounting data models.
Accounting data model research has advanced together with the development of data model theory, which is part of database theory that was triggered by the Sorter Events Approach. Specifically, such models as the hierarchical model, network model, relational model, entity relationship model, and object oriented model have been advocated, and students learn how these data models have been applied to the field of accounting.

会計情報システムの設計・開発は、一定のデータベース管理システム（DBMS）を前提として進められるが、その際に鍵となるのが会計データモデルである。本講義では、REA会計モデルに代表される会計データモデル論がこれまでどのように展開してきたかを概観し、会計データモデルの基礎を理解することを目標としている。

会計データモデル研究は、Sorterの事象アプローチをきっかけとして、主としてデータベース理論の一領域であるデータモデル論の展開とともに進展してきたといえる。具体的には、階層モデル、網モデル、関係モデル、実体関連モデル、オブジェクト指向モデルなどのモデルの提唱されてきたが、これらのデータモデルが会計領域にどのように応用されてきたかについて学習する。
