To be able to understand and explain how economic geography is used to view the growth of cities and what causes cities to grow and decline.
Based on the location theory learned in Economic Geography 1, this course will look at cities as “a place where a set number of people and industries are densely concentrated within a set area” and as a “point with centralizing function that draws in people, goods, money, and information from surrounding areas.” Further, economic geography analysis techniques, in particular city system theory, will be used to examine why populations and industries gather in specific regions, how cities form, and their mechanisms.

経済地理学では、都市の成長をどのように捉えているのか、また、都市の成長・衰退は、何によって起こるのかを理解でき、説明できる水準になること。
To be able to understand and explain how economic geography is used to view the growth of cities and what causes cities to grow and decline.
経済地理学１において学んだ立地論をもとに、一定の「人口・産業が一定区域内に高密度で集在」し、「周辺地域から人・モノ・カネ・情報が向かって集まる中心性を持つ地点」として都市を捉えていきます。その上で、なぜ、特定地域に人口・産業が集まり、都市が形成されていくのか、そのメカニズムについて、経済地理学の分析手法、なかでも、都市システム論を用いながら明らかにしていきます。
