[Knowledge] Students will acquire knowledge of major economic events and the characteristics of the Japanese economy, relevant theories, and keywords.
[Critical Thinking Skills] Students will develop critical thinking skills through a project topic of their choice, class discussions, and writing.
[Discussion Skills] Students will improve their ability to engage in constructive debate.
Content includes lectures, discussions, group activities, a project (essay or presentation), and short assignments. Japanese Economy 1 covers trends in growth and stagnation, characteristics of Japanese firms and industrial structure, government economic policy, and financial markets. "Japanese Economy 2 focuses on savings, demographics, the labor market, and international trade and finance. The order of topics can be adjusted to maximize the learning experience.
