【Course Objectives】

This course is a practical introduction to stockmarkets for investors. The stockmarkets of Singapore and Australia are introduced. Singapore in particular is a good benchmark because it is the leading financial centre in the Asia-Pacific, and ranked fourth globally, according to the 2024 Global Financial Centre Index (https://www.longfinance.net/programmes/financial-centre-futures/global-financial-centres-index/gfci-36-explore-the-data/gfci-36-rank/).

【Course Contents】

The first part of the course covers the trading and settlement of stocks, and trading offenses such as insider trading and market manipulation.
The second part covers company action, such as initial public offerings, secondary offerings, earnings announcements and takeovers.
The third part covers disclosure investor protection and corporate governance.
The class is organized as a lecture in the first half, with a Workshop (from 11:25) in the second half, where students conduct group research and present the equivalent characteristics of their home stock market.
