This course explores Japanese management and related topics.
[Knowledge] Students will gain an in-depth understanding of Japanese management, its background, and its evolving role in the global economy.
[Critical thinking skills] By analyzing business cases and Japanese and global economic trends, students will critically evaluate the arguments on Japanese management and its changing environment. The course encourages students to use AI effectively while critically evaluating its output.
[Discussion Skills] Students will also improve their ability to engage in constructive academic discussions in English.
The course content includes lectures, discussions, group activities, and short assignments. Selected case studies are used, including those published in the Harvard Business Review, as well as news articles. "Japanese Management 1" mainly covers management decisions observed in the Japanese market. "Japanese Management 2" mainly focuses on international business operations. The order of the weekly topics may be adjusted to optimize the learning experience.

Students are expected to complete the assigned readings before each class meeting and to participate in class discussions actively. Students should allocate at least two hours for preparation and two hours for review for each class. 毎週、授業前に指定された教材を読んだ上で出席し、積極的に発言すること。各回の予習および復習には、それぞれ最低2時間ずつ確保すること。成績には発言点を含む。

Students retaking the course should not resubmit work that was submitted in previous semesters. Before the semester begins, students should review the assigned reading materials to ensure that the content aligns with their interests and level of English proficiency. Students should be familiar with the fundamentals of academic essay writing, including proper referencing techniques. Exams will be in essay format. 本科目は、英語圏の大学の授業と同様の形式で行い、多様な背景をもつ学生とともに学ぶ機会を提供する。こうした学修環境に関心のある学生の履修を歓迎する。単位取得にあたって求められるのは、特別に高度な英語力ではなく、母語で培った読解力・思考力、基礎的な学力、そして十分な学修時間を確保する姿勢である。履修にあたっては、学期開始前に指定教材を確認し、内容が自身の関心や英語力に適しているかを判断すること。また、小論文の基本的な書き方や引用方法について、基礎ゼミ等で学修した内容を理解しておくこと。学期中は文献をすべて読み、授業内の討論や課題に主体的に取り組むこと。
本授業では英語を使用言語とし、日本型経営およびそれに関連するトピックを学修する。①科目に関連する基礎的知識の習得、②批判的分析力の養成、③英語による討論能力の向上を目標とする。
