Students will understand the basic issues about the significance and types of social research and will learn the basic matters concerning the process from the collection to the analysis of materials and data. The objective is to nurture the skill to critically read and interpret surveys and statistics.
Actual examples will be used for students to learn the purpose of social research, survey methodology, and survey types (quantitative survey, qualitative surveys, etc.). In addition, an overview will be given of the fundamental matters regarding the implementation process from the collection of data to its analysis.

本授業は統計学、社会調査、量的調査の初学者にも理解できるように具体例やイメージを多く示しながら
授業を進めます。これらの分野に苦手意識がある受講生の履修も歓迎します。
社会調査の意義と諸類型に関する基本的事項を理解し、資料やデータの収集から分析までの諸過程に関する基礎的な事項について学習する。調査や統計を批判的に読み解くスキルを養うことを目指す。

社会調査の目的、調査方法論、調査の種類（量的調査と質的調査など）と実例について学ぶ。加えて、データの収集から分析までの実施過程に関する基礎的な事項についても概説する。
