This course presents a discussion about the economics of renewable energy, with examples of initiatives from around the world to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions.
After the class, students should have a broad knowledge of the issues related to renewable energy. These include the sources of renewable energy, the reasons for switching from fossil fuels to renewable energy, the various government initiatives to achieve renewable energy targets and Net Zero carbon emissions. It also presents the challenges and contradictions of adopting renewable energy, with respect to infrastructural and resource constraints, environmental degradation and human rights, and issues of national and energy security.

There are no textbooks for this course. The study material are freely available internet resources or articles. They will be mainly news articles or opinion pieces from online sources such as newspapers, blogs or other social media. The purpose of using current articles is to make the content of this course current and interesting to students. |
It would be helpful if students bring along an internet accessible device (tablet, laptop) for use in the workshop.
Each class will be divided into 2 parts. The first part will be a lecture presentation. The second part will be group discussions, with 4 or 5 students per group. A member of each group may be required to present the group's findings.
