Notes

【Course Objectives】

This course invokes the Theory of Comparative Advantage in international economics, to discuss the factors that led to globalization, and the recent events that may lead to de-globalisation.

【Course Contents】

After the class, students should have a basic knowledge of the history and current underlying framework of the international trade and monetary order, Bretton Woods I and II, which is dominated by the US and western countries. This system is underpinned by the US dollar in what is called the petrodollar system. Also discussed are the recent events that have set in motion a move away from this uni-polar world, towards a multi-polar world led by BRICS+, and the attempts by many countries to reduce reliance on the US dollar.
