【Course Objectives】

Why do various physical and chemical changes occur spontaneously? This course aims to learn fundamental concepts of physical chemistry, with a focus on entropy, which is crucial for understanding the direction of chemical reactions and equilibrium.

【Course Contents】

The fundamental concepts and laws of chemical thermodynamics are explained, with a focus on the first law (law of conservation of energy) and the second law (law of entropy increase). By introducing state functions, the universality of thermodynamics, as well as its relevance to the microscopic picture, is explained. Concepts such as Gibbs energy and chemical potential are introduced to understand phase transitions and phase equilibria occurring in various substances.
