As a core course in the College of Environmental Studies, this aims to provide fundamental knowledge and perspectives for deepening learning across diverse fields in environmental studies, focusing on environmental pollution issues both domestically and internationally. It also seeks to foster a shared commitment to participating in solving environmental challenges. Specifically, the objectives are as follows:
・Gain an overview of major domestic and international pollution incidents and contemporary critical issues including marine pollution from plastic waste, examining them from both natural science and social science perspectives.
・Consider strategies for resolving pollution issues and personal implications, aiming to realize a sustainable society grounded in environmental justice.
This course examines the causes, impacts, and countermeasures for various environmental pollution problems both domestically and internationally. It involves learning from past history, understanding the current situation, and considering the future direction of society. The course addresses major environmental pollution incidents, covering issues such as air pollution, water pollution, soil contamination, noise, vibration, and odors. It also tackles contemporary critical challenges like marine pollution from plastic waste and radioactive contamination. Students will scientifically understand the impacts of pollution on human health and ecosystems while learning about the historical development and social challenges. This includes examining environmental regulations and technical solutions in different countries, international cooperation, the hardships and movements of affected individuals and communities, and business trends.
Based on this knowledge, students are expected to develop the perspective and skills necessary to contribute to practical initiatives and devise solutions for environmental problems, working towards a sustainable future.

授業時間外の学修に関する指示は、履修登録完了後に「Canvas LMS」上で履修者に対して行う。
各回の予習・復習にはそれぞれ２時間程度を要する。

環境学部の基幹科目として、国内外の汚染・公害問題に着目しながら、環境学における多様な領域で学びを深めていくための基本的な知識・視点を得るとともに、環境課題の解決に参画する意志を共有する。具体的には以下を目標とする。
・国内外の重大な公害事件の経験や、プラスチックごみによる海洋汚染など現代の重要課題について、自然科学・社会科学の両面から概要を理解する。
・環境正義にもとづく持続可能な社会の実現に向け、汚染・公害問題を解決する方策と、自身とのつながりを考える。

国内外のさまざまな汚染・公害問題の原因、影響、対策について、過去の歴史から学び、現状を理解し、これからの社会のあり方を考える科目である。この授業では、大気汚染、水質汚染、土壌汚染、騒音、振動、悪臭といった公害問題について、これまでの重大な公害事件を取り扱うとともに、プラスチックごみによる海洋汚染や放射能汚染など、現代の重要課題を取り上げる。公害が人間の健康や生態系に与える影響を科学的に理解しつつ、公害の歴史的経緯と社会的課題について、各国の環境規制や技術的解決策、国際的な協力、被害・加害に直面した人々や地域社会の苦難と運動、ビジネスの潮流にも着目しつつ学ぶ。
学生はこれらの知識をもとに、持続可能な未来に向けた環境問題の解決策を考え、実践的な取り組みに貢献するための視野とスキルを身につけることを目指す。
