【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

現代において地球的な課題となった「環境問題」は、単に自然環境だけでなく、私たちの科学技術や社会や文化、価値の複合問題でもある。それらの課題を扱う「環境倫理」は、根底にある人間の在り方・生き方や、私たちが考える倫理的対象の問いなおしなども含んでいる。この講義では、具体的課題としての環境問題を参照し、人間の在り方生き方・倫理的対象の拡大などを含む、これからの人類社会において求められる「環境問題の解決」の倫理的課題について思考できることを目標とする。

Modern environmental issues have evolved into complex global challenges that encompass not only the natural environment but also the intersections of science, technology, society, culture, and values. Environmental ethics, the discipline addressing these challenges, involves a fundamental re-examination of human existence, lifestyles, and the scope of our moral consideration.

By referencing specific environmental cases, this course aims to enable students to critically reflect on the ethical imperatives required to "solve environmental problems" in future human society. This includes exploring the transformation of human roles and the expansion of the boundaries of ethical subjects.

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

単に「環境に良さそうなこと」の「やった感」だけでは、実のある解決にならない。環境問題が社会のあらゆる場面で問われるようになった現代であるからこそ、「人にとって環境はどのようなものか」、「人や社会が環境との間で抱える問題やその解決とはどのようなものか」という基盤（要）になる点の洞察が無ければ、私たちの努力はチグハグで意味のないものになってしまいかねない。実は、この基礎的な洞察は、これまでの先人においてもずっと問われてきて、いろいろな考えが提示され、検討されてきた。これは「環境問題」に直面した人倫の理としての「環境倫理」の課題である。

この講義では、その「環境倫理」の問いと格闘してきた思考や事例をふりかえりながら、私たちが現代の「環境問題」をどう捉えてくべきなのかを考える。２年次以降、各自の関心に応じてあらゆる領域で学びを深めていく際の基礎となる思考、視点を培う科目である。

Simply pursuing a superficial sense of accomplishment by "doing something good for the environment" does not lead to meaningful solutions. In an era where environmental issues are raised in every facet of society, our efforts risk becoming incoherent and ultimately futile without a fundamental insight into the cornerstone questions: "What is the nature of the environment for human beings?" and "What constitutes the problems between society and the environment, and how should they be resolved?"

Historically, our predecessors have continuously grappled with these foundational inquiries, offering and debating a diverse range of perspectives. This is the central task of "Environmental Ethics"—ethics understood as the fundamental principles governing human conduct in the face of environmental challenges. By reflecting on the history of those who have struggled with these questions through both intellectual inquiry and practical action, this course explores how we should perceive and approach environmental issues in the contemporary world.
