Students will acquire the basic knowledge necessary to conduct social surveys, and will also understand how to design social surveys, the characteristics of qualitative and quantitative surveys, and how to conduct them.
This course provides basic knowledge about the significance, background, methods, and philosophy of social surveys as one approach in environmental studies. Various social survey methods and specific methods for data collection and analysis based on these will be explained using practical examples, covering both quantitative and qualitative surveys. The course also examines the history, philosophy, and ethics of social surveys, taking into account the paradigm understanding of environmental studies. This course provides an opportunity for students conducting social surveys for their graduation thesis to acquire the basic skills necessary for this purpose, and for other students to acquire the literacy required to interpret social surveys.

社会調査を実施するうえで必要な基本的知識を身に付けるとともに、社会調査の設計方法、質的・量的調査の特徴と実施手法を理解する。
Students will acquire the basic knowledge necessary to conduct social surveys, and will also understand how to design social surveys, the characteristics of qualitative and quantitative surveys, and how to conduct them.
環境学におけるアプローチのひとつとしての社会調査について、その意義、背景、方法、思想に関する基本的な知識を学ぶ。さまざまな社会調査の手法と、それらにもとづくデータ収集・分析の具体的方法について、量的調査・質的調査の双方を扱いながら、実例に沿って解説する。また、社会調査の歴史や思想、倫理について、環境学におけるパラダイム理解のあり方も踏まえ、検討する。卒業論文に向けて社会調査を行う学生にとっては、そのための基礎的なスキルを習得する機会となり、それ以外の学生にとっても、社会調査を読み解くためのリテラシーを獲得する機会となる。
This course provides basic knowledge about the significance, background, methods, and philosophy of social surveys as one approach in environmental studies.
