- To develop a fundamental understanding of environmental design and environmental management.
- To propose improvement strategies for environmental design and management at Rikkyo University’s Ikebukuro Campus through group work.
This course introduces theories and practical approaches to environmental design and management in Japan and around the world.
In the first half of the course, students will learn the fundamentals of environmental design, focusing on why urban green spaces are essential in cities and how urban green spaces should be conserved and created. Through hands-on exercises, students will evaluate green spaces on Rikkyo University’s Ikebukuro Campus and examine potential improvement strategies based on their assessments.
In the second half, the course addresses environmental management systems. Students will study the development of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and management approaches based on international standards such as ISO 14001, and will consider strategies for implementing environmentally responsible management practices in corporations and local governments.
In the final stage of the course, students will work in groups to develop and present proposals for improving environmental design and management at the Ikebukuro Campus.

日本及び世界における環境デザイン・マネジメントの理論と実践手法を学ぶ。前半では、環境デザインの基礎を扱い、なぜ都市に緑が必要とされるのか、都市の緑をどのように評価し、保全、創出していくかについて理解を深める。また、実習形式で、立教大学池袋キャンパス内の緑地を対象とした評価を行う。後半では、環境マネジメント・システムについて扱う。環境マネジメントシステム（EMS）の構築や、ISO14001などの国際基準に基づいた管理手法を学び、企業や自治体が環境配慮型の経営を実践するための戦略も考察する。最終的には、学生がグループに分かれ、池袋キャンパスの環境デザイン・マネジメントの改善案を考え、発表する。
