It deals with the state of society from various angles and encourages reflection on the relationship between self and society.
Two books will be read in this class.
Sociologist Munesuke Mita has written "The Hell of the Gaze", an analysis of the serial shootings that shook Japanese society in the 1960s and 1970s.
The book reveals the class structure of Japanese society at the time and the existential meaning of individual lives that underpinned it.
Another book that will be examined in class is Yusuke Maki's "The Sound of Air Currents". This book explores the way of life of human beings in the logic of the other world depicted in anthropologist Castaneda's book. It is regarded as a book of comparative sociological concepts that unleashes the repressed ego from the depths of modern society.
'The knower chooses the path of the mind. Whatever the path, the knower travels on the path of the mind.’
I would like to think about the meaning of these words in relation to qualitative research (fieldwork and interviews).

It deals with the state of society from various angles and encourages reflection on the relationship between self and society.
社会調査と社会理論の両方にかかわる２冊の本を読む予定です。
１冊は、社会学者の見田宗介による1960年から70年代の日本社会を震撼させた連続射殺事件を分析した『まなざしの地獄』です。当時の日本社会の階級構造と、それを支える個人の生の実存的な意味を浮き彫りにする本書をとおして、現代社会に生きる意味について考えたいと思います。
もう１冊は、真木悠介『気流の鳴る音』です。人類学者のカスタネダのエスノグラフィに描かれた異世界の論理に、人間ほんらいの生き方を探る本です。現代社会に抑圧された自我を、深部から解き放つ比較社会学的構想の書として評価されています。
「知者は〈心のある道〉を選ぶ。どんな道にせよ、知者は心のある道を旅する」
この言葉の意味について、質的調査（フィールドワークやインタビュー）とも関連づけながら考えることができればと思います。
