The course objectives are to enable students to: (i) learn about basic ideas of sociology by reading texts, (ii) know how to analyze an issue from a sociological perspective, and (iii) see their research from different perspectives through discussion.
The course is composed of readings and discussions. Students learn about how to grasp social consciousness through the reading of sociological text and the interpretation of culture.

難解な本であっても本を丁寧に読もうとする態度を持っていること。
・書籍をていねいに読んでいくことで、社会学・人文学的思考法の基礎を身につける。
・あるテキストが書かれた時代背景について考えながら、文献を通じて社会を考える方法を身につける
・発表を通じて、自己の考えを他者に伝えるための方法を学ぶ。
・討論を通じて、他者の問題関心を理解しながら、同時に自己の問題関心を深めていく方法を身につける。
・教養のための多様な知識を身につける

“本を読む”こと、“本を通じて考えること”は、簡単にそうに見えて、意外とむずかしい。この難しさに向かい合うために、本演習では、「現代思想」や「現代社会論」に関する本を読んでいくことを通じて、“読むこと”、“考えること”、“論じること”についての基礎的なスタンスを身につけていった欲しいと考えている（“内在的に理解すること”と“批判的に読むこと”の二つの態度をともに身につけて欲しいとも考え、論争的な本も選んでいる）。
本年度は、「物語」「メディア・テクノロジー」を軸に、現代社会における人間とアイデンティティの関係について考えていく。
抽象度が高い議論を扱うため、その議論の論理を意識的に読解していく態度を求めたい。
