Notes

【Course Objectives】

Students will develop the ability to approach issues in contemporary society from gender and sexuality perspectives, and to analyze and critically examine the underlying factors behind them.

【Course Contents】

Stereotypes and norms concerning gender and sexuality shape individual experiences and social structures in various ways, at times excluding certain social groups and giving rise to serious social problems. Building on the ways of formulating questions and analyzing society learned in Seminar 2A, students carry out individual research projects in this course. Each student selects a social phenomenon of interest, formulates a question from gender and sexuality perspectives, reviews the relevant literature, and writes a seminar paper presenting the results.

Each student gives approximately three presentations over the semester, developing their research through successive stages: setting a research topic, reviewing previous studies, and structuring the seminar paper. A discussant is assigned to each presentation. Discussants read the handout in advance, prepare comments, and open the discussion, after which the floor is opened to all participants. Raising questions about other students' research and taking part in these discussions also offers an opportunity to reexamine one's own work from a critical distance. Students are expected to contribute to discussions not only as presenters but also as discussants and participants.
