What kind of phenomenon is a social movement? It is a mirror-like phenomenon that reflects events occurring in this society, and is also a clue to understanding social change. It is often thought of as something "unusual" and carried out by peculiar people, but is that really the case? The scope of social movements is wide, including community development, volunteer, clubs, NPOs/NGOs, civic activities, civil disobedience, etc. The scope is also wide, from the micro level of social movements that arise in everyday life, to the mezzo level of the formation of groups and identities, and the macro level of bringing about changes in systems and structures. Based on these, this class aims to reconsider social movements as something that can be felt close to, taken an interest in, and committed to through the study of theory, history, and case studies.

・社会運動論とはどのような領域であるのかについて理解し説明することができる。
・社会運動を考察するうえで重要となるキーワードについて理解し説明することができる。
・具体的な社会運動に接近する問題意識、対象、方法論を身に着け、それらを適切に表現することができる。

社会運動とはどのような事象か。それは、この社会で生じる出来事を映し出す鏡のような現象であり、社会の変動を理解する手がかりでもある。「非日常」的で、特異な人たちによってなされるものと思われがちであるが、果たしてそうだろうか。まちづくり、ボランティア、サークル、NPO・NGO、市民活動、市民的不服従等、社会運動が指し示す範囲はひろい。日常性から発生する社会運動のミクロレベル、集団やアイデンティティの形成をめぐるメゾレベル、そして、制度や体制に変化を生じさせるマクロレベルまで、その射程も広範囲に及ぶ。本授業では、これらを踏まえて、理論、歴史、事例の学びを通じて、社会運動を身近に感じ、関心を持ち、また、コミットメントし得るものとして捉え直すことを目指す。
