Students will learn specific examples of sociological research using methods of quantitative analysis. Through this course, students will gain an understanding of the characteristics of contemporary society and develop a sociological way of thinking.
The following three objectives are set for students.
(1) To be able to comprehensively and pluralistically understand the issues of contemporary society
(2) To be able to critically examine empirical research
(3) To be able to formulate one's own opinions on issues in contemporary society.
First, I will explain how quantitative research in sociology is carried out, and what to think about in order to "measure society." Next, I will explain how the quantitative analysis method for analyzing survey data is actually used, introducing specific research examples. Throughout, we will consider the importance of understanding the characteristics of modern Japan from survey data.

計量分析の手法を用いた社会学研究の具体例を学びます。これを通じて、現代社会の特徴を把握するとともに、社会学的な思考法を養います。
受講生の到達目標は以下の3点です。１）現代社会の課題について、総合的・多元的に理解することができる、２）既存の経験的研究を批判的に検討できるようになる、３）現代社会の課題について、自分なりの意見を形成することができる
Students will learn specific examples of sociological research using methods of quantitative analysis. Through this course, students will gain an understanding of the characteristics of contemporary society and develop a sociological way of thinking.

まず、社会学における計量研究がどのような手順で行われるか、「社会を測る」ために何を考えればよいのか、について説明します。つぎに、調査データを分析する計量分析の手法が実際にはどのように用いられているかについて、具体的な研究例を紹介しながら解説します。全体を通じて、調査データから現代日本の特徴を把握することの重要性について考えます。
First, I will explain how quantitative research in sociology is carried out, and what to think about in order to "measure society."
