In this seminar, we will examine Islam and Muslim societies, focusing on the changes and diversifications that have occurred in modern and contemporary times. Our goal is to cultivate flexible perspectives on societies and cultures in the modern world.
In recent years, Muslims have accounted for approximately one-quarter of the world's population, making knowledge of this religion essential for understanding contemporary societies. The first half of this seminar focuses on acquiring foundational knowledge about Islam. In the second half, students will select topics of personal interest for reading and discussion. Fundamental research skills will be developed by students during this process. These include how to locate and read scholarly literature for investigation and inquiry, and how to prepare research summaries.

本演習では、イスラームと呼ばれる宗教に着目し、とくにその影響を受けた諸社会の近現代における変化や多様化について学ぶ。それを通して、現代世界に対する柔軟な視点や思考方法を培うことを目指す。

イスラーム教の信徒（ムスリム）は近年、世界人口の約４分の１を占めると言われ、この宗教に関する知識は、現代世界の諸社会を理解するために必要不可欠となりつつある。本演習の前半では、イスラームに関する基礎的知識を習得し、後半では、自ら関心のあるトピックを選択し、講読と議論を行う。その際、調査探求のための文献の探し方、読み方、レジュメの作成方法など、研究を進めるための基礎的なスキルを習得する。
