Students will study how "culture" will be understood in sociological and anthropological studies through reading cultural anthropological articles. Students will also learn how to read books and papers, how to make a handout, and how to hold discussions.
We will read Kenneth J. Guest's Cultural Anthropology: A Reader for a Global Age in this class. We will pick up six chapters of this book: "Culture," "Ethnicity and Nationalism," "Gender," "Kinship, Family and Marriage," "Religion," and "Art and Media." Each chapter uses three classes. At the first and second class, students will be assigned to make a handout and introduce the content of the chapter. At the third class, we will have a discussion over the topics which introduced in each chapter.

文化人類学の論文を読むことを通して、社会学・人類学的な「文化」概念の使われ方について学びます。また、論文や本の講読の方法、レジュメの作り方、議論の仕方などを学びます。
Students will study how "culture" will be understood in sociological and anthropological studies through reading cultural anthropological articles. Students will also learn how to read books and papers, how to make a handout, and how to hold discussions.
この授業は、Kenneth J. Guestの『Cultural Anthropology: A Reader for a Global Age』をテキストとする。同書のうち「Culture」「Ethnicity and Nationalism」「Gender」「Kinship, Family and Marriage」「Religion」「Art and Media」の各章で紹介されている論文を講読する。各章とも3回の授業を使う。1回目および2回目は担当者がレジュメを作成して、論文の内容について報告する。3回目は、論文の内容についてクラス全体で議論をする。
