【Course Objectives】

In this class, we will discuss the discourse surrounding 'race' and 'ethnicity' through a close reading of Ghassan Hage's "Is Racism an Environmental Threat?".

【Course Contents】

Ghassan Hage, an Australian anthropologist and sociologist, has published numerous works on issues related to nationalism and ethnicity. The text we will closely read in this class deals with both 'racial issues' and 'environmental issues.' According to Hage, although 'racial issues' and 'environmental issues' may initially seem unrelated, they are actually deeply interconnected. Through a close reading of this work, we will come to understand how various social issues unfold while being closely interlinked with one another.
