The purpose of this class is to develop an anthropological understanding of the process of cultural transformation that occurs when different societies and cultures come into contact, and to develop the ability to explain how cultures change and are reorganized through historical examples and concrete examples from contemporary society.
Acculturation refers to the process of change in values, institutions, practices, and meanings that occurs when people and societies with different cultural backgrounds encounter and influence each other. This class will understand acculturation not simply as the "loss of tradition" or "modernization," but as a complex process linked to power relations, history, economics, migration, and technology.
The lectures will not be limited to a specific region, but will refer to examples from Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, and will cover themes such as colonialism, state formation, religion, family, gender, globalization, media, and migration. This will allow for a comparative examination of the conditions under which acculturation occurs and the forms in which it has been experienced.

本授業は、異なる社会や文化が接触するなかで生じる文化変容の過程を、人類学的視点から理解し、歴史的事例や現代社会の具体例を通して、文化がどのように変化し再編成されていくのかを説明できる力を養うことを目的とする。

文化変容とは、異なる文化的背景をもつ人々や社会が出会い、相互に影響を与え合うなかで生じる価値観、制度、実践、意味の変化の過程を指す。本授業では、文化変容を単なる「伝統の喪失」や「近代化」として捉えるのではなく、権力関係、歴史、経済、移動、テクノロジーなどと結びついた複雑なプロセスとして理解する。
講義では、特定の地域に限定せず、アジア、アフリカ、ヨーロッパ、アメリカなどの事例を参照しながら、植民地主義、国家形成、宗教、家族、ジェンダー、グローバル化、メディア、移動といったテーマを取り上げる。これにより、文化変容がどのような条件のもとで起こり、どのような形で経験されてきたのかを比較的に考察する。
