毎週の宿題をこなすことで、授業中のディスカッションに積極的に参加し、準備をすることが求められる。授業の最後には、文献調査とフィールドワーク（インタビュー等）に基づいてプレゼンテーションを準備し、研究レポートを作成すること。 Students are required to actively engage in and prepare for in-class discussions by completing weekly homework assignments. At the end of the course, students will prepare a presentation and write a research report based on lterature review and fieldwork (interviews, etc.).

• 現代社会における手仕事の価値について考える。To discuss the value of handicrafts in contemporary society.
• 制作過程に関わる国境を越えた人間と人間以外の繋がりを探る。To investigate the transnational networks of human and non-human actors involved in the process of making.
• 国境を越えた文化の共通性と多様性を探る。To explore the commonalities and diversity of culture beyond national borders.
手仕事は、人間と人間以外が関わるローカルかつグローバルな社会的関係のネットワークに存在している。ヨーロッパ、南米、日本の事例を通して手仕事・工芸の歴史と現在の苦境を学びながら、環境・文化・社会の関係を多面的に考えていく。講義、読書、ビデオ、ディスカッション、ゲストレクチャーなどを通じて、過疎化や環境破壊などの問題を解決するために、各地で工芸が、グローバルな繋がりを利用しながら、どのように活用されているのかを見ていく。このように、ポスト工業化社会における手仕事の重要性を考えていく。
Craft-making is embedded in a web of local and global social relationships involving human and non-human actors. While learning about the history of crafts and its current predicament through case studies from Europe, South America, and Japan, we will consider the relationship between nature, culture, and society in multiple ways. Through lectures, readings, videos, and discussions, we will learn how craft is being used in various regions to face issues of depopulation and environmental degradation, while also taking advantage of global interconnectedness. In this process, we will consider the relevance of craft in post-industrial society.
