This class takes up topics on cities and globalization. Those who take the class absorb academic knowledge on urban sociology and geography through reading books and materials related to these realms. Furthermore, students have to choose a theme, carry out field research, and make a report based on first-hand data they collect in the field. Each student is expected to develop comprehensive skills necessary to write a graduation thesis in the 4th year of university.

本演習は都市とグローバリゼーションについて考えるゼミである。年間のゼミ活動を通じ、履修者は都市社会学・地理学周辺の都市研究に関わる学術的知識を身に付け、自ら適切なテーマを選択し、フィールドワークや調査研究を進めるとともに、これに基づいた報告書（ゼミ論文）を完成させる。以上を通し、4年次の主体的な卒業論文執筆に備えた力を養うことを学習目標とする。

①都市社会学・地理学に関わる理論的文献の講読、②グローバリゼーションと日本を含む各国における都市、地域、人間の活動に関する文献の講読、③現場の観察やインタビューに基づくフィールドワークの方法の復習と学習、④調査テーマの検討・決定と調査項目の精緻化、⑤フィールド調査の実施、⑥調査結果の整理・分析と報告書の執筆。
履修者は自らの関心と実現可能性に基づいてテーマを考えること。また、ゲストスピーカーを呼ぶ可能性もある。
