Students will understand the behavior of reporting while recognizing the importance of its functions in modern democratic society. At the same time, they will understand the limits and issues surrounding reporting. In addition, students will understand the basics of article writing.
Why society needs reporting? What meaning does it have? Students will refer to these in their arguments while adding in perspectives of Japanese journalism characteristics and international comparisons. In this class, students will also consider field experience of reporters on site. Students will experience writing articles themselves while thinking about these basics.

| 参考文献はその都度授業中に示します。 ただ、紙の新聞については、一紙で結構ですので毎日読むようにしてください。朝日でも毎日でも何でも結構です。自宅でとっていない場合は、大学や地域の図書館で読むように努めてください。 |
「メディア・調査実習入門２」も履修することが望ましい。
活字ジャーナリズムの基本である文章＝記事執筆の基本について会得してもらうことが最大の目標です。実際に記事を執筆してもらいます。新聞記事のみならず、どうやったら「相手に理解される文章」が書けるかも学習します。同時に、報道という営為がどのようなものかを理解するとともに、その機能が現代民主主義社会の中で有する重要性を認識してもらいます。報道の限界や問題点などについても理解します。

物事を伝える最も研ぎ澄まされた文章は新聞記事です。その執筆を実際に体験してもらいながら､その基本について考えていきます｡「うまい文章」とはどのようにすれば書けるのかも伝えていくつもりです。また、報道は社会にとってなぜ必要なのか､どういう意味を持つのかなどの論点を軸に､日本型ジャーナリズムの特質とその国際比較という視点も織り込みながら､現役記者として ｢現場感覚｣ を加味しながらの授業とします｡
