The goals of this course are as follows:
（１）To deeply understand academic literature in Media Sociology, and to acquire the ability to apply this understanding.
（２）To learn how to compare and consider opposing information on specific topics or issues, and to develop the ability to build an integrated understanding.
（３）To refine and express opinions about media and society based on specialized knowledge.
While the internet provides a foundation for social collaboration, it also facilitates the spread of fake news and hate speech, thereby promoting human rights violations and societal division. Consequently, there are increasing demands for intervention in speech and expression activities directed at corporations like the former Twitter Inc., and governments. We must not only adapt to changes in the media environment but also anticipate its impacts and implement necessary rules.
In this course, we will first learn about the characteristics of communication on social media and theories related to freedom of speech and expression. Then, we will engage in group discussions about the rules concerning freedom of speech and expression. The ultimate goal is for each student to develop a well-informed and universal opinion. Furthermore, through reading sessions, students will enhance their ability to read academic literature accurately. During group work exercises, they will acquire fundamental skills necessary for future research and learning, such as methods of discussion.

この授業の目標は次の３つである。
（１）メディア社会学の学術文献を読み解き深く理解し、それを応用する力を習得する。
（２）特定の論点や争点に関し、対立する情報を比較考量し、統合的な理解を構築する力を習得する。
（３）メディアや社会に対し、専門知識に立脚した見解を練り上げ、発信する力を習得する。

インターネットは社会的協働の基盤を提供しますが、同時にフェイクニュースやヘイトスピーチを拡散し、人権侵害や社会の分断を促進します。そのため、旧Twitter社などの企業や政府に対し、言論・表現活動への介入を求める声も生じています。私たちは、メディア環境の変化に適応するだけでなく、その影響を予想し必要なルールを設計、導入していかなければなりません。
この授業では、まず、ソーシャルメディアにおけるコミュニケーションの特性や、言論・表現の自由に関する理論を学びます。次に、言論・表現の自由に関するルールについてグループで議論します。最終目標は、各受講生が知識に立脚した普遍的な意見を練り上げることです。
さらに、輪読を通して、学術文献を精確に読む能力を高めるとともに、グループワーク形式の演習の中で、ディスカッションの方法など、今後の研究や学習のために必要な基礎的能力を身につけます。
