Climate crisis, widening poverty and inequality, and the loss of social connection—today we stand at a turning point where the social systems built on the premise of “growth” are increasingly being shaken. In this course, rather than viewing these crises as distant news, students will reframe them as “their own questions,” grounded in their values, choices, and everyday lives. Through this process, we aim to co-create with classmates new forms of value and hope for the era ahead.
The instructor has worked in television journalism for over 30 years and, in 2021, took early retirement from broadcasting to relocate to Amakusa City, Kumamoto Prefecture. Since then, she has been engaged in hands-on community-building initiatives while continuing her work as a journalist. In the first half of the course, the instructor will offer perspectives and real-world cases to help students interpret social change at this pivotal moment. In the second half, students will break into small groups (3–4 people) to explore essential questions related to each theme through discussion. By sharing experiences and reflections with one another, participants will use creative dialogue to delve deeply into open-ended questions—focusing not on quick answers, but on how and why we think the way we do.

気候危機、貧困・不平等の拡大、つながりの喪失――。私たちはいま、これまでの「成長」を前提にした社会の仕組みが揺らぐ転換点に立っています。本講義では、こうした危機を“遠いニュース”として眺めるのではなく、自分の価値観・選択・暮らしと結びついた「自分の問い」として捉え直し、新しい時代の価値と希望のかたちを仲間と共創することを目指します。

講師は、30年にわたってテレビ報道に携わり、2021年、放送局を早期退職して熊本県天草市へ移住、地域づくりの実践に取り組みつつ、ジャーナリストとして活動しています。授業の前半は、講師が時代の転換点にある社会の変化を読み解き、後半は各テーマに関する本質的な問いをもとに少人数のグループに分かれて意見を交わします。参加者相互の経験や思いを共有し、正解のない問いを創造的対話によって深く掘り下げていきます。
