| 備考/ NotesNotes |
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1.Understand the primary theories, concepts, topics, and discussions in the field of sociology
2.Apply relevant sociological perspectives and approaches to analyze contemporary social issues.
3.Discuss sociologically related topics in English and cultivate a ‘sociological imagination.’
4.Develop critical thinking and academic reading and writing skills.
Sociology studies society by examining social relationships, institutions, culture, and norms. These systems shape us as social beings. Sociological theories and methods help us understand ourselves and others, linking personal struggles to broader societal issues. This study can foster empathy, imagination, and critical thinking, empowering individuals to envision change. Key issues in sociology include poverty, racial and ethnic discrimination, gender inequality, urbanization, power and politics, and more, all of which affect everyone.
This course aims to develop students' "sociological imagination," linking personal and community concerns to broader societal systems. Students will critically analyze social problems and discuss them using evidence from ethnographic cases, factual data, and sociological theories. Through critical reading and class activities, they will deepen their understanding and apply their knowledge in a final research project.
The course format includes lectures, discussions, and student presentations, with a strong emphasis on active participation in scholarly discourse.
