Notes

【Course Objectives】

The main objective of the course is to introduce students to the political dimension inherent in global news, by putting into practice the agenda setting effects of mass media. Relying on project-based learning, the course will also aim to help students take part in free and open discussions in English about contemporary international issues.

【Course Contents】

The course will take the form of an in-class role playing game turning students into journalists in charge of writing fictional newspapers.

Four newspapers will be created to illustrate four political perspectives on the world: a liberal newspaper, a socialist newspaper, an environmentalist newspaper and a conservative newspaper.

Each session will be an opportunity to write a new edition of these four newspapers. Students will be randomly assigned to one of the four editorial boards. They will write the cover articles of their newspaper and explain their choices to the class.
