【Course Objectives】

The industrial crisis of newspapers, which have played a major role in journalism activities, is progressing, but journalism does not have to be set on paper if it finds a place to live on the Internet. Regardless of what the media will be, journalism as philosophy and a daily diary production activity is probably necessary for the survival and development of society. Rather, the problems of the Internet society have already been found in the United States 100 years ago. In this course, journalism will be examined from the aspect of various journalistic activities, the history, journalistic ideas, researches.

【Course Contents】

This course gives an overview of the difference between journalism and mass media, and journalism in the digital era. Then, it provides a general account of mass media which play roles in journalistic practice. It also examines democracy which has developed in a close relationship with journalism.  Major journalistic ideas including neutrality, freedom of the press, objectivity will also be examined.  Finally, it provides an overview of journalistic practices and research on mass media.
