This course deals with public opinion and social attitudes as an aspect of culture.
How are the norms and values shared by people regarding various social issues, as well as their attitudes and perceptions regarding their relationships with others and their own condition, related to the social divisions observed globally?
In this class, we will explore this question using the theory and methods of quantitative public opinion research.
First, quantitative theories and methods of public opinion and social attitudes will be explained.
Next, I will introduce the theories and empirical findings of previous studies on public opinion and social attitudes related to various phenomena of social division. And we will discuss them.
Finally, students will conduct a brief secondary analysis (mainly cross-tabulation) of their own interest in social divisions and public opinion using an online analysis system for social survey data.
Based on the results, we will discuss where the problems concerning social divisions lie and what institutional and policy improvements are needed.

この授業では，文化の一側面として社会意識をあつかう．
様々な社会課題にかんして人々の間で共有される規範や価値観，また他者との関係や自身の状態にかんする態度・認識は，世界的に観察される社会分断とどのように関連しているだろうか．
計量的社会意識研究の理論と方法をもちいて考察する．

はじめに，計量的社会意識研究の理論と方法について説明する．
次に，社会分断の諸現象に関連する様々な社会意識について，先行研究の理論や実証的知見について紹介し，履修者間で議論を共有する．
最後に，履修者は社会調査データのオンライン分析システムをもちいて，社会分断と社会意識に関する自身の関心について簡単な二次分析（主にクロス集計）をおこなう．
その結果から，社会分断にかかわる問題の所在と必要な制度・政策的改善について考察する．
First, quantitative theories and methods of public opinion and social attitudes will be explained.
