Why do conflicts occur? How do they intensify and end? What impact do they have on local communities? How can citizens rebuild their daily lives? These questions are complex and universal, touching on issues that concern all of humanity. The aim of this course is to explore specific cases of conflict in Palestine/Israel and Ukraine, gain a foundational understanding of relevant concepts and theories, and consider how we can engage with these critical issues.
This course explores the ambiguity of the terms "war" and "peace" while surveying the modern history of conflicts and wars. It examines the roles of various actors involved in preventing and resolving these conflicts and conducts a comparative analysis of their backgrounds, causes, structures, and realities, with a focus on the conflicts in Palestine/Israel and Ukraine (covered in sessions 6 to 12). Additionally, the course reviews and evaluates efforts at reconciliation and peacebuilding, including Japan's role through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), discussed in sessions 13 and 14.

世界史の基礎的知識があること
授業支援システムにアクセスして、授業中・授業後に課される課題やリアクションペーパーを書いて提出するための機器（パソコン、タブレットなど）
初回授業で授業の進め方、基本的なルールについて説明するので、必ず出席すること。
紛争はなぜ起こるのか。紛争はどのようにして激化し終結するのか。紛争は地域社会に何をもたらすのか。紛争後の社会において、人々はいかにして日常生活を取り戻すか。これらの問いは、いずれも簡単に答えを出すことが出来ない、ややこしいものであることは間違いないが、全人類に関わる普遍性をもっている。講義では、パレスチナ／イスラエル及びウクライナの具体的事例をとおして、これらの問いを考察するための基本的概念・理論について学び、私たち一人ひとりがこれらの問題にどのように関わっていくべきか考える。

戦争／平和の多義性を理解し、近代以降の紛争の歴史を概観した上で、紛争の予防と処理における諸アクターの役割、国際法の役割について学ぶ。その後、パレスチナとウクライナの事例から、現代における紛争の背景と原因、紛争の構図、紛争の実態、和平の試みについて考える（6～12回）。さらに、日本（国際協力機構JICA）による和解・共生の様々な試みについて考察する（13～14回）。
