【Course Objectives】

• Develop basic understanding of economic and comparative sociology concepts,
• Develop understanding of fundamental sociological concepts related to work and labour relations in global context
• Develop skills in conducting database research and analysis,
• Develop professional English working skills.

【Course Contents】

The course begins with an introduction into the key sociological theories and vocabulary related to work, employment and labour relations. The second part of the course examines global trends in work and labour relations from 1945 to the present. This includes case studies on international organisations, multinational corporations, the role of women and migrant workers, and changes in the international division of labour. The third part of the course looks to future and the implications of transformations in the world of work: the role of artificial intelligence, the relevance of trade unions and the emergence of the "gig" economy (platform workers).
