【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

1　古代から近代に至る政治哲学の主要な論点を理解する。
2　近代世界が抱える諸問題について理解する。
3　現在および未来の政治的諸課題に対する批判的な考察力を身につける。

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

　自然環境の破壊、資本主義の暴走、テロや虐待などの暴力の横行など、近代世界がさまざまな領域で行き詰まりの様相を呈している。どうしてこのような世界になったのか。どうすればこれらの問題を乗り越えることはできるのか。
　意思決定と政策実現を担う点で、政治の責任は極めて重い。だが、表面的な政局の動きを追う程度では、これらの問題に立ち向かうことは無理だろう。より根本的な考察が不可欠と思われる。
　政治哲学は、ソクラテスとともに始まると言われる。本授業では、1) その古代政治哲学の一つの到達点とされるアリストテレス、2) その批判とともに近代政治哲学を開始したホッブズ、3) 両者を含む古代から近代までの全体と対決したニーチェの三名を取り上げ、人はいかに生きるべきか、国家や社会は、さらに自然との関係は、いかにあるべきかといった問いについて、批判的に考察を進める。

The modern world, it seems, has been faced with the impasse in various aspects, for instance, the destruction of the natural environment, the runaway of capitalism, and the widespread violence such as terror or abusive treatments. One may wonder what made such a world; how or whether one can overcome those problems?
The responsibility of politics is extremely heavy, since it makes decisions and implements policies. However, it is hard to confront those problems by tracking the movement of the superficial political situation. More fundamental considerations seems to be indispensable.
Political philosophy is said to begin with Socrates. In this course, we will take up three political philosophers: 1) Aristotle, whose thought is regarded as an attainment of the ancient political philosophy; 2) Hobbes, who began the modern political philosophy along with the total criticism of Aristotle; 3) Nietzsche, who radically confronted the whole from the ancient to the modern, including Aristotle and Hobbes. We will critically consider, how one should live, how the state or society should be, or how one should relate to the nature, etc.

【授業時間外（予習・復習等）の学修 / Study Required Outside of Class】

とくに予習を課す予定はない。ただし、復習は次回授業の重要な土台になるため、予習の意味を兼ねて、次回授業までに復習を済ませること。復習の際には、ノートや資料を見返しながら、授業の全体的な流れをまず把握して、総論から各論の確認へ向かうとよい。
