The objective of this class is to instill a sure understanding of what mathematics is, and how mathematics relates to the real world.
As a textbook, the class will use the book Suugaku no kotoba de sekai wo mitara (Gentosha) by Hiroshi Oguri. In each class, I will explain the content of this textbook. Mathematical issues will be explained as they come up. You will be asked to write a reaction paper in each class. Grades will be assessed through the reaction paper.

この授業の目標は、数学とはどのようなものであり、これが現実世界とどのように関わっているのか、という点についてたしかな理解をもってもらうことである。
The objective of this class is to instill a sure understanding of what mathematics is, and how mathematics relates to the real world.
この授業では教科書として、大栗博司著『数学の言葉で世界を見たら』（幻冬舎）という本を使います。ただし、教科書を購入していただく必要はありません。毎回授業では、この教科書の内容を講義形式で説明していきます。数学的事項が出てくるので、そちらもあわせて解説します。成績は毎回授業の最後にリアクションペーパーを書いてもらい、それをもとに評価します。
