【Course Objectives】

This course equips students with critical theoretical and historical frameworks to gain insights into the modern Arab and Islamic world and to engage in their own societies. Students will analyze how colonization, racism, and knowledge production are interconnected and perpetuated, and how these forces have shaped relations between regions.

【Course Contents】

The course combines lectures and class discussions to explore contemporary social and political issues in the Arab and Islamic world and beyond. Drawing on selected case studies and critical scholarship, it examines historical developments, political and social transformations, as well as questions of gender, culture and media discourse. Students are encouraged to engage in class discussion and are required to give presentations and submit a final paper related to the course themes.
