【Course Objectives】

The primary goal of this course is to practice fundamental academic skills related to (a) reading articles (academic/journalistic), (b) producing accurate APA citations, (c) writing academic papers, and (d) designing academic presentations. Students will practice using Google Docs and Slides in-depth, including editing and design tools.

The secondary goal of this course is to practice effective peer review skills, including giving constructive feedback and critique, and revising work to meet higher standards.

【Course Contents】

Each of the four units focuses on a specific academic skill. These overlap in some cases. Each unit will end with a portfolio task. These four tasks will add up to form an academic portfolio, which is ideally a reference point for you to use in future courses.

Unit 1: Reading skills | Unit 2: APA skills | Unit 3: Writing skills | Unit 4: Presentation skills

For the midterm and final, we will practice detailed peer review and feedback skills of your portfolio work.
