Notes

【Course Objectives】

In this course students will explore concepts and subjects concerning media, gender, and cultural studies in contemporary South Korea. Students will examine media discourses and representations with conceptual tools to better understand social, historical, and political contexts and critical issues arising from gender, race, and class dynamics in contemporary South Korean society.

【Course Contents】

This is an intensive discussion-oriented course, in which students are expected to read academic texts before coming to each class, analyze media/pop culture products, conduct independent research and present individually/in groups, collaborate for classwork, answer quizzes and writing prompts, and actively discuss theoretical concepts, observations, and opinions every week.

At Rikkyo University, students are required to spend 45 hours of study (including class time) per credit. Please prepare for classes and review the materials accordingly.
Students are expected to come to class having done weekly reading assignments, independently prepare for presentations, and watch assigned media material.
