By visiting the massacre sites of the Great Kanto Earthquake, students will acquire an attitude of understanding the issues of international cooperation from the standpoint of the people concerned.
Rather than thinking of the issues of international cooperation as those of others overseas, students will understand them as the connection between the issues of Japan and those of overseas.
Based on the above understanding, students will acquire the perspective and practical skills to solve the issues of international cooperation through mutual cooperation, rather than solving them as one-sided support..
On September 1, 1923, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 occurred with its epicenter in the northwestern part of Sagami Bay. It was the Great Kanto Earthquake. An estimated 6,000 Koreans and hundreds of Chinese were massacred after the quake, but there has been no official apology from the Japanese government, and 2023 marks the 100th anniversary. In this course, students will interview the citizens who have investigated the hidden massacre and mourned the victims, standing on the position that such an incident should never happen again.
In the second half of the course, students will visit people from overseas whose hometowns have been affected by armed conflicts. In this course, people who stand by the side of disadvantaged people as a result of armed conflict or violence and engage in activities to overcome divisions are called "grassroots peacemakers." Through onsite field studies, students will learn how their activities are building the foundations of peace at the grassroots.

関東大震災における虐殺の現場を訪れることにより、国際協力の課題を当事者の立場に接近して理解する姿勢を身に付ける。
国際協力の課題を、海外の他者の課題として考えるのではなく、日本の課題と海外の課題のつながりとして理解する。
上記の理解にもとづき、国際協力の課題を一方的な支援として解決するのではなく、双方向に協力して解決する視座と実践力を身に付ける。

1923年、相模湾西北部を震源とするマグニチュード7.9の巨大地震が発生した。関東大震災である。関東大震災では、推定6000人もの朝鮮人および数百人の中国人が虐殺されたといわれているが、日本政府の公式な謝罪はなく、2023年に100年目を迎えようとしている。本科目では、虐殺が起こった現場を訪問し、二度とこのような事件を起こしてはならないと犠牲者を追悼してきた市民から話を聞く。
科目の後半には、海外の武力紛争地域の出身者で、日本で生活している人びとを訪ねる。日本国内で起こった虐殺と進まない政府レベルでの和解の問題に目を向けることを通じ、海外の武力紛争が他人事ではなく、日本と海外の課題が連続しているものとして理解する視点を培う。
本科目は、武力紛争や暴力により不利な立場に置かれた人びとの側に寄り添い、分断を乗り越える活動を行う人びとを「草の根で平和を創る人びと」と称する。彼／彼女らの活動現場を訪れることを通じて、当事者や当事者性を引き受けている人びとが抱えている困難な状況への理解を深める一方、活動が共感を呼び、草の根で平和の礎が築かれている様子を学ぶ。
