Notes

【Course Objectives】

The course aims to help students develop skills to critically analyze and discuss the content of news articles, social media posts and other media content to protect them from mis/disinformation and give them the skills to verify information. It also aims to make students responsible consumers of media. Handouts and news articles will be analyzed for discussions on fake news, propaganda, censorship.

【Course Contents】

The course will consist of three main pillars. Tasks in and outside of class will involve reading news articles, analyzing articles and web content for accuracy, discussing news and media literacy issues with classmates, researching and presenting on related topics.

Read a news article in English, summarize it, and write your opinion. Preview the media discussion questions and write out your opinion on the questions. Do related research if necessary.
