備考/ NotesNotes |
The primary goal of this course is the development of original student research papers in English in the fields of media, communication, New Media, and intercultural communication.
The instructor will present examples and models of theses, dissertations, and articles to illustrate conventions of writing and organization. The instructor will work with students both as a group and one on one to help them develop the topics of their theses.
The secondary goal of this course is practice with conventions of academic writing and research skills. The instructor will provide a guide on collecting effective sources, making accurate citations, and using research to build persuasive theses.
The main focus of the class is on the literature review supporting students' theses. A literature review is the portion of a thesis describing the written works that come before an original work. That is, it is a 'history' of ideas that leads up to your own idea. An effective literature review shows the reader that the thesis has a 'place' in the literature, finds a 'missing' idea in that literature, and contributes a new idea to that literature.
In addition to the written literature review section, students will also draft a Reference List of their works they have cited, using APA formatting for in-text and full citations.
