Upon successfully completing this course, students should be able to:
(1) Understand the cognitive organization of linguistic structures and the social nature of language use.
(2) Demonstrate comprehension of linguistic terminology and concepts.
(3) Apply linguistic concepts and frameworks to other areas of study.
This course introduces students to the field of linguistics by covering major areas such as phonetics and phonology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and multimodality.
It also focuses on sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics, providing insights into how languages are used and learned in real-world contexts.
Students will explore how concepts developed in linguistics can be applied to analyze or enhance other fields of study, including education and media studies.
