【Course Objectives】

The primary goal of this course is to train students to approach content with an ICC mindset, particularly the concepts of Hofstede’s six dimensions and Bennett’s DMIS model.

The secondary goal of this course is to provide students with engaging case studies for analysis and reference as they explore ICC further.

【Course Contents】

The course begins with an overview of approaches to ICC. There are four units, each of which explores a different way to consider intercultural communication. After each unit, students will write a journal reflection based on a related prompt (for a total of four journals).

Once a week, there will be a lecture sharing ten key facts, followed by a short quiz. There is a midterm exam and a final exam which combine previous quiz questions. There is a final group presentation examining a media object that represents ICC (e.g. a film about culture shock, a YouTube video about tourism).
