基礎科目(DLP/PEACE/TBP) |
In this course, students will learn about English, which we use as a tool for communication in our daily lives, with a particular focus on its characteristics as a language and the tendencies of its speakers' thinking, through comparing it with the Japanese language. The aim of the course is to provide students with an overview of previous research in English linguistics, and to use this knowledge to objectively study the English language and make their own observations.
In the first half of the semester, the instructor will lecture on previous research on the English language, particularly on the basic concept of language and previous research on literary works and everyday speech, using the cognitive linguistics approach. In the second half of the semester, in parallel with the lectures, students will consider how they can apply the previous research to linguistic phenomena around them through group discussions, and present their ideas.
